FF DURATION
As you read this, nine young fliers from across America will be competing with youth from around the world at the Free Flight Junior World Championship in Salonta, Romania. The contest, which runs from July 28 through August 3, consists of three events: F1A Towline Glider, F1B Wakefield Rubber, and F1P Power.

Dave Sechrist has been experimenting with long motor runs on his own-design F1G Coupe. “I was trying to go for a minute-45,” he said. “You just cruise around and the prop folds and you are still a little ways up in the air.”

The use of electronic devices in FF models is nothing new. For a quarter century, tiny transmitters have enabled us to find models that would have otherwise been lost. With the life of a model extended from weeks to years, we could invest more time and money in each model, secure in the knowledge that it wouldn’t be lost at the first contest.

JUNIOR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS:
August 8-14, the 11 members of the US
team competed in the 2004 Junior Free
Flight World Championships in
Moncontour, France. I’ve had the
opportunity to watch many of the team
members in action at the Nats and have
developed a respect for their teamwork and
ability to persevere despite bad weather and
other problems. These were qualities they
needed in France
