How precise are your landings? How do you practice your arrivals? Most modern Thermal contests require precision piloting at the end of the flight to obtain a decent score. The aircraft needs to land at a precise moment as closely as possible to the designated landing spot for maximum points.

In July 2014, the World Soaring Championship was contested in Martin, Slovakia. The US F3J team members were Jody Miller, Daryl Perkins, and Chris Lee; the US Junior team was Tristan Sherman, Dillon Graves, and Dominic Lewis.

Much discussion has ensued throughout the US during the last couple of years regarding how to incorporate electric-launched models into this country’s flagship Soaring achievement program: the League of Silent Flight (LSF). It is a terrific accomplishment by the LSF board to finally recognize and include electric launch with its own parallel achievement program called the Electric Soaring Achievement Program (ESAP). This LSF discussion spawned similar debates among Soaring pilots in Florida.

An exciting new era in RC Soaring has begun with the advent of the US F3J Championship Series, called the J-Tour. With the nationwide increase in participation and interest in FAI Soaring, this series of F3J contests has been organized to enhance participation and pilot preparation to ensure stronger US World Championship teams in the future.
