Hello, District VII members. As I wrote this, warm weather had arrived, with storms and high winds. I am sure, if you are like me, you enjoy every moment you are at the flying field.
Forgive me for the brevity of my column this month, but I spent too much time getting my aircraft ready for an enjoyable summer of flying with you, the members of District VII, at your various events, and sharing stories with all of you. Next month’s column should be full of adventures and pictures (although with space limitations; I am sure it will be spread over several issues).
Before I get distracted, I want to send a shoutout and congratulations to clubs in District VII. The Milan Flyers, Jackson Radio Control Club, Michiana Skyraiders, and the Western Michigan Radio Aircraft Flyers were recipients of the Flying Site Improvement Grant.
Also, congratulations to the District VII clubs that received Take off And Grow Grant funding. Those clubs were the Calumet Flyers, Jackson Radio Control Club, Rock River Aeromodelers, and the Shawano RC Flyers. Congratulations to you all, and please let us know when we can visit your club to see the wonderful updates and learn about your club’s educational programming.
The Pontiac Miniature Aircraft Club in White Lake, Michigan, again held its annual John’s Jet Jam on May 16, which marked the 15th year of the event. Leading up to it, the wind was high and rain was heavy, but when it was time for the event to begin, the weather turned out to be wonderful (but windy at odd times).
John Hoover, the organizer and for whom the event is named, has long been involved in the hobby. Some of you might have read the “I Am the AMA” in a previous issue of Model Aviation that described John’s incredible journey and background.
