WOW! A NEW year is about to begin. It seems like they arrive more
quickly each year. Have you made some new year’s resolutions for the
hobby? Maybe you’re thinking about obtaining a new model or kit,
attending a competition or event, or just getting some time off and
flying more.

Ohio hosts the Toledo R/C Expo or, as
it’s commonly called, “the Toledo Show.”
What a way for a city to get its name on the
map of many modelers across the country.
Other cities could take a lesson from this.
The show is well organized, with
parking, admittance, and food vendors, and
there are plenty of people to see, static
models to envy, and new products to buy.
Some modeling friends and I have a savings
plan for this event; we toss change and
sometimes small bills into a jar in the shop
beginning at the end of the show, for mad
money we can spend there the following
year.
Scale models play a big part in the show,
as does the static competition. Awards for
the beauty contest range from $2,000 for

It mIght be cold where you are, but as I write this in early
October it’s still in the mid-80s in Nashville, Tennessee. It’s time to
think about new projects and get them underway for the next flying
season or contest season.

ONE OF THE often-neglected areas of a
Scale model is the cockpit. It’s the place
where the full-scale pilot operates all
controls. He or she has to check all of the
instruments, dials, gauges, and a multitude
of other items before even taking off.
