Radio Control Giants - 2008/08

IN THE LAST few columns I addressed some of the ways foam
can be useful in building RC Giant models. This month I’ll describe
the method I used to construct the large wing fillets on my 1/4-scale
Russian Polikarpov I-16 “Rata.” This is another fine example of
how blue foam can
make a seemingly
daunting task easier
to manage.

A VERY HAPPY and healthy new year to
all AMA members and their families.
Wow! It seems like yesterday when the
Western world reached the second
millennium (year 2000) and, right before
our eyes, another decade has slipped by.
During this time, great strides have been
made in RC. Radio-control models have
greatly increased in size and—at the same
time—shrunk to miniscule proportions, 2.4
GHz digital spread spectrum technology is
fast replacing 72 MHz as the system of
choice, and new motor/battery technology
has vastly expanded electric-flight
capabilities.

RADIO CONTROL GIANTS 2003/09

WHEN YOU LIVE in the Northeast, the
winter months seem to drag on painfully with
no relief in sight. However, when you live in
the Northeast and write a monthly column for
Model Aviation, the months seem to whisk
by. I could swear that I submitted last
month’s column just a few days ago and now
I’m working on another. Thanks to our
readers, I have some unique Radio Control
(RC) Giants to write about.
