Control Line Throttle Control
Control Line (CL) models have evolved since the 1940s, transitioning from ignition engines to modern electric motors and 2.4 GHz radio technology. Originally, CL models lacked throttle control, but advancements like glow engines and the three-line handle improved functionality, allowing for larger models with features like retractable landing gear. The introduction of down-the-line electronic controls in the 72 MHz era enabled refined throttle management. By 2013, 2.4 GHz systems became mainstream, enhancing reliability and ease of use for CL pilots. Recent innovations, such as the LineMaster handle, continue to push the boundaries of CL modeling, allowing conversions from RC kits for competitive flying.

Hazel Sig-Hester, influential in model aviation, passed away at 103 on October 10, 2025. She was celebrated at the 2025 Midwest Regional C/L Championships.

Stott's modifications led to the acceptance of electronic controls at the 1974 FAI F4 World Championships. The Modern Control Line Scale Model - 2015/06
One of the plans I have in my collection is from the Modern Hobbycraft Products line and is dated 1946. These Control Line (CL) Scale plans show a Bantam ignition engine and a 28-inch wingspan model. The aircraft was so small that there was barely enough room for the engine and a small bellcrank. By 1947, the glow engine had made its appearance, which made ignition engines obsolete.
