AMA Executive Council Meeting Motions

Motion I: Motion by Randy Cameron (EVP), seconded by Mark Radcliff (III) to begin charging $10 a year to receive the Model Aviation print magazine subscription with your yearly AMA dues beginning September 1, 2026.
Motion passed: 10 yes, 1 no, 0 absent, 2 abstained.
Motion II: Motion by Andrew Griffith (V), seconded by Gary Himes (VI) to accept the scholarship eligibility changes to require current membership and membership 36 out of the previous 48 months prior to the current year’s application deadline.

Motion III: Motion by Randy Cameron (EVP), seconded by Phil Tallman (XI) to accept the scholarships as presented by the Education Sub Committee.

Motion IV: Motion by Randy Cameron (EVP), seconded by Randy Gibson (VII) to start the demolition process of the AMA structures located at 4909 E County Road 200 S.

Motion VII: Motion by Randy Cameron (EVP), seconded by Andrew Griffith (V) to approve the TAG grants as presented transferring unused TAG grant funds to fully fund other districts TAG grants. Remaining funds to be transferred to Flying Site Improvement Grants.

Motion IX: Motion by Greg Stone (President), seconded by Randy Cameron (EVP) to place the Barker donation into a separate account as an endowment within the AMA Foundation with the investment earnings to be used as designated for purposes of F3 travel, minus administrative fees.

The following club report comes from Associate Vice President (AVP) Andrew Figlar about his recent visit to one of District I’s finest AMA clubs in Connecticut.
On April 4, I visited the Country Squire Modelers (CSM) club, which has been flying model airplanes at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport, Connecticut, since the 1960s. It is the only AMA chartered club with a special use permit from the Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection to fly model aircraft in a state park. The site is located on the shore of Long Island Sound, which encompasses 234 acres of the park with woodlands, beaches, pavilions, picnic areas, walking paths, and the AMA airfield.
During my visit, the club was holding its spring cleanup, which is quite different from other clubs. Volunteers were raking and shoveling oyster and clam shells that local birds had scattered across the runways into wheelbarrows for disposal. This column’s images pay tribute to the club volunteers who maintain the 15,000 sq. ft. paved runways for all members and guests to enjoy flying from in 2026.
Andy Argenio and I have attended the club’s Wonder of Flight model aircraft air show, which is held annually in partnership with the Forest and Park Association. CSM does an excellent job of introducing many attendees to AMA and aeromodeling.
