Aeromodeling Leads to Careers
At AMA, we always enjoy hearing stories about how participating in the hobby has led members to careers in aviation and other exciting opportunities. It is sometimes challenging for us to find people who have experienced this; in most cases, it comes from the person who is sharing their story with us.
We have several members, both past and present, who found their calling at NASA—members such as Frank Borman, Neil Armstrong, and Hoot Gibson, just to name a few. In this month’s issue, we share the stories of two modelers who also took their talents to NASA. Susan Weisenbach Johnson was one of AMA’s first scholarship winners before she went on to pioneer NASA research and earn the Collier Trophy. Terry Dunn became an engineer at NASA, working closely with astronauts.
