AMA Member Services Representative
Q: How long have you worked at AMA and what is your current role?
A: I started my AMA journey as a Staffmark associate in September 2020 and was hired as an AMA associate effective on Valentine’s Day 2021.
My job title is Member Services Representative. There’s a lot going on behind that job title: answering the phone, forwarding calls to departments, processing member payments (mail and on the phone), processing EAA student memberships, front/back door sentry, and the list goes on.
Q: What hobbies do you have?
A: I absolutely love to play in the dirt. I enjoy gardening and small-scale landscaping (very small scale) as often as the weather (and my schedule) allows.
I love singing. I have been a member of Masterworks Chorale, a semi-professional choral organization located in Muncie, Indiana, since January 1999. On a good day, I can hit the A above high C in the upper register (treble clef) and the F below middle C in the lower register (bass clef). I sing second soprano and first alto in the chorale.
I also enjoy arts and crafts. I dabble in wreath making, hooking rugs, crocheting (a little), and I am an expert at wielding a glue gun!
Q: What is your favorite place to eat in the area?
A: I don’t have a favorite restaurant per se. I do, however, like to eat well and get my money’s worth, so here are my top five in alphabetical order: 1. Applebee’s Grill + Bar; 2. Chili’s; 3. MCL Cafeteria; 4. Oasis Bar & Grill; and 5. South Madison Street Café.
Q: Do you have any pets?
A: Li’l Man, Marmalade, Muffin, Petunia, and Willow are the names of my cats. Petunia is the lone outside cat. As a two-year-old peach, grey, and white calico, she guards the farm. Li’l Man and Willow are 9 years old. Willow is a Tuxedo cat, and Li’l Man is all black. Marmalade and Muffin are sisters who are three years old. Marmalade is the standard black, orange, and white calico, and Muffin is a “tabby-co” (a tabby cat with calico markings), according to the vet. My husband and I share the house with them.
Q: What do you enjoy most about working at AMA?
A: I’ve never really thought about it much. In conversation, I will tell people that this is my “retirement job” because when I finally do get to retire, it will be from this organization. I love the people—all of them—those with whom I work every day, the people I speak with on the telephone, and those who walk through our front door, for whatever reason. The personalities, opinions, attitudes (good/bad/indifferent), keep the everyday routine from being mundane.
Q: Can you share a memorable moment from your time at AMA?
A: The 2024 solar eclipse is one. AMA hosted a watch party on the International Aeromodeling Center’s grounds, and it was absolutely fabulous!
My personal favorite was seeing my first International Radio Controlled Helicopter Association night flight. Wow! Being a non-flier with a love of helicopters, I was absolutely thrilled to see the helicopters lit up in neon colors and flying around like nobody’s business. Hovering in midair, flying upside down, and “dancing” to a choreographed routine with music blaring in the pitch-black darkness was an absolute delight for me.
Q: What is a detail or aspect of your job that people outside of AMA might not realize is so important?
A: Continuing education and skill building is important. I am required to attend a minimum of two sessions or classes per calendar year. The topic doesn’t have to be centered around the job function or title, but it needs to be helpful so that I can incorporate what I learn to do my job to the best of my ability and be a better human.
