MINI-STICK LIVES AND BREEDS! No one was very surprised when Mini-Stick became not one, but two unofficial events at the Nats/USIC meet at Johnson City, Tennessee. Two mass launch events (sponsored by Doc Martin's MIAMA group) were won by Tom Vallee and John Triolo respectively, but the Duration event, sponsored by Burr Stanton's Indoor Model Association of River City (INMARC), showed the real promise of this design concept. The top three times were: Tom Vallee-9:07, Tony d'Alessandro-8:55, and Laurie Barr (England) 8:26.

A LIGHT is gone. Louisville, Kentucky felt the loss first, but we all will miss Burr Stanton. Early this year Burr succumbed to a very aggressive cancer only a few weeks after diagnosis. Burr's association with Indoor began with the NIMAS-sponsored contests at West Baden and continued until his death. He was a very active and effective leader for the activity in Louisville, and he published a newsletter that enlightened more than just his local group. We will all miss his influence and enthusiasm.

F1D POSTAL: Two of the tree U.S. teams entered in the F1D postal challenge between the U.S. and Japan completed their flights by the October 31, 1992, deadline. The team headed by Chuck Slusarczyk lost access to the site they hoped to use and were unable to arrange for another site in time. The teams headed by Tom Vallee and Bob Randolph completed their flights as listed below: WEST COAST TEAM Bob Randolph - 34:15 + 34:18 = 67:33 Cezar Banks - 17:50 + 23:17 = 41:07 Steve Brown - 30:36 + 30:50 = 61:26 Team Total 170:06 EAST COAST TEAM Tom Vallee - 25:43 + 25:53 = 51:36 Dan Belieff - 20:06 + 18:00 = 38:06 Phillip Kleinert - 17:50 + 19:23 = 37:13 Team Total 127:00

THREE BIG CONTESTS! Last year we Indoor fliers had only one major contest-the USIC combined with the National Championships at Johnson City. This year there will be three: the first is the U.S. Indoor Championships, June 4-7, 1992, at the Mini-Dome of East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee. LIVING Room Stick postal results: The 1992 version of the world's most popular postal meet ended after 117 contestants from 11 countries had posted flights in sites with ceiling heights ranging from 62 feet to 7.97 feet. Each flight score was modified by a carefully developed fudge factor to compensate for ceiling height differences.
